Cupid’s favorite healthy dessert recipe is finally here, Valentine Brownie Protein Cupcakes! This easy cupcake recipe is high in protein, low in sugar, and guaranteed to impress anyone on Valentine’s Day!
For this recipe you’ll need 2 large mixing bowls for your cupcake ingredients, a smaller bowl for your frosting, and some heart shaped silicone cups like these.
In your first large mixing bowl for your dry ingredients add 1/2 cup of rolled oats turned into oat flour, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 cup of your choice sweetener, 4 tablespoons of coconut flour, 3 scoops of a chocolate protein powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.
Make your homemade oat flour by blending or processing your rolled oats until they look like flour.
Lightly mix all of your dry ingredients together.
Add into your other large mixing bowl for your wet ingredients 1 medium ripe avocado, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 large whole eggs, 2 large egg whites, and 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce.
Mix all of your wet ingredients together, I like using a hand mixer to do this.
Cupcakes Mix
Slowly mix your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients until your valentine brownie protein cupcakes mix is smooth.
Add into your mix either 1 tablespoon of regular sugar free chocolate chips or 1 tablespoon of melted sugar free chocolate chips. My preference? Melted!
Take out your heart shaped silicone cups and evenly distribute your mix into them. I made 12 valentine brownie protein cupcakes today.
Put those into the oven on 350F/176C for around 18-22 minutes depending on the size of your cupcakes. You can check if your cupcakes are done by inserting a toothpick into the center of one of them and if it comes out clean, they’re done.
Remove your cupcakes from the oven, let them cool, and get ready to frost them!
Protein Frosting
Add into your last bowl 2 ounces of fat free cream cheese, 1 tablespoon of your choice sweetener, 1/2 container of a vanilla Greek yogurt, and 1/2 scoop of a vanilla protein powder.
Pro tip? Let your cream cheese soften up a bit before you add it in and it’ll mix easier.
Mix all of those ingredients together until you have your desired protein frosting consistency.
If you want your frosting to have some color you can also optionally mix in a couple drops of some red food coloring. The more food coloring you use, the darker red your frosting will be.

Hey Derek,
These came out very dry (cooked for 19 min). Any suggestions? Followed the recipe to the letter. More applesauce?
Thanks again for the site!
Hi Nick! Try cooking them for 15:00 (or even less). You can throw in some more apple sauce if you want too! Hope this helps
I tried it, but It has a artificial taste to it..
I think it is because of the protein powder. Do you have something that I can put in it as a substitute? Like cottage cheese or something?
For the rest it tasted great!
Hi Steven! What protein did you use?
My fav dessert would be chocoate cake!
My fav dessert would be Chocolate Pots de Creme or flourless chocolate torte. Can you tell I like chocolate:)
