Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from theproteinchef.co (the “Site” or “Website”) or use The Protein Chef mobile app (the “App”). Together, the Site and App are our “Services.”

Personal information we collect

When you use our Website

Device information. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect information about your device, including your web browser type, IP address, and time zone, and some of the cookies on your device. As you browse, we collect information about the pages and products you view, the websites or search terms that referred you, and how you interact with the Site. We collect this using cookies, log files, web beacons, tags, and pixels (see “Behavioral Advertising” and our Cookie Policy).

Order information. When you make or attempt a purchase through the Site, we collect your name, billing and shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers), email address, and phone number. Purchases are processed through Shopify, and orders for print-on-demand products are fulfilled through Printify and its print and shipping providers.

Information you provide. Your email address (for example, when you subscribe to our newsletter), registration or account details (such as name, screen name, and password), and any comments you post. If you comment, a hashed version of your email may be sent to Gravatar to display a profile picture.

When you use our App

Account information. Much of the App works without an account. If you create one, we collect your email address and a display name. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email and password. Authentication and account data are handled by our backend provider, Supabase.

Content you save. When you’re signed in, your saved recipes, recipe folders, and grocery lists are stored in our backend (Supabase) so they sync across your devices.

Subscriptions. If you purchase a premium subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple, and your subscription status is managed through RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Recipe submissions. If you submit a recipe through the App, we collect the name, email, recipe details, and any optional photos you provide. Submissions are sent privately to us and are not shown to other users.

Recipe reviews. If you choose to leave a review on a recipe, your review and display name are posted publicly on our Website.

Ingredient substitutions. If you use the AI ingredient-substitute feature, the ingredient you enter is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate suggestions.

Feedback and newsletter. If you contact us or subscribe to our newsletter from the App, we collect your message and/or email address.

Technical information. We process limited technical information necessary to operate and secure the App. The App does not display third-party advertising and does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Crash and diagnostic data. When you use the App, we use Sentry (a service operated by Functional Software, Inc.) to automatically collect crash reports and basic technical information (such as your device model, operating system version, and error details) when the App crashes or encounters a problem. We use this only to diagnose and fix issues, and it is not linked to your identity. See Sentry’s privacy practices at https://sentry.io/privacy/.

How we use your personal information

We use the information we collect to: provide, operate, and improve our Services; fulfill orders and provide products you purchase from the Site; create and sync your App account, saved content, and preferences across devices; process and manage subscriptions; respond to recipe submissions, reviews, feedback, and support requests; send our newsletter and communicate with you (you can unsubscribe at any time); deliver recipe content and videos; detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues; and comply with our legal obligations.

Sharing your personal information

We share personal information with service providers who help us operate our Services, including: Shopify (Website store and purchases); Printify and its print and shipping providers (to produce and fulfill physical products you order); Supabase (App accounts, database, and storage); Apple and Google (App sign-in); Apple and RevenueCat (subscription payments and management); Anthropic (AI ingredient substitutions); our content-delivery providers (to deliver recipes and videos in the App); and Google Analytics (to understand how our Site is used). We also share information with advertising partners on our Website as described in “Behavioral Advertising” below.

We may also share information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a lawful request, or to protect our rights. We do not sell the personal information you provide in our App, and the App does not share data with advertising networks.

Affiliate marketing

Some links on our Site and in our content are affiliate links, including through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. If you purchase through these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

Sponsored content

Some content may be sponsored or created in partnership with brands. We disclose sponsored content where required.

Behavioral Advertising

We use personal information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may interest you on our Website. Our App does not display third-party advertising. You can learn how targeted advertising works at the Network Advertising Initiative’s educational page (https://thenai.org/about-online-advertising/), and you can opt out through YourAdChoices (http://optout.aboutads.info), the Network Advertising Initiative (https://thenai.org/opt-out/), and, in Europe, Your Online Choices (https://www.youronlinechoices.eu). You can also set your preferences using the cookie-consent tool on our Website.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required. Our Website’s consent tool also lets you set your advertising and cookie preferences.

Data retention

When you place an order through the Site, we maintain your order information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete it. For the App, we retain your account information and saved content for as long as your account is active; when you delete your account, we remove your profile, saved recipes, folders, and grocery lists from our systems. We retain other information as needed to provide our Services and comply with our legal obligations.

Deleting your App account

You can delete your The Protein Chef account and all associated data at any time:

  • In the app (instant): Open the app, tap the “More” tab, tap “Delete Account,” and confirm. Your account and data are permanently deleted right away.
  • By email: If you can’t access the app, email support@theproteinchef.co from your account’s email address and ask us to delete your account; we’ll complete it within 7 days.

When you delete your account, we permanently delete your account, profile, display name, saved recipes, recipe folders, and grocery lists, and your premium-subscription association is removed. Any recipe reviews you posted are disassociated from your account. We may retain limited records where required by law (e.g., purchase/tax records) and anonymized, aggregated data that does not identify you; residual copies in backups are removed within 30 days.

Deleting only some of your data: You don’t have to close your account to remove data. You can delete specific items directly in the app — un-save individual recipes, clear your grocery list, or delete folders — or email support@theproteinchef.co to request deletion of particular data.
