Looking for a high protein and healthy dessert recipe? Make your own homemade Frozen Protein Peanut Butter Cups! These delicious pb cups are made with just 5 simple ingredients and take only a few minutes to prep.

All you need for this one? A shaker bottle or mixing bowl and something to shape your peanut butter cups like these silicone muffin cups.

Add right into your shaker or mixing bowl 6 large pasteurized liquid egg whites, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, 40 grams of your choice flavor protein powder, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, and 1 packet of some sweetener.

Use a good tasting protein powder that compliments the other flavors in the recipe! Vanilla, chocolate, peanut butter, and banana are some of my favorite options.

Make sure to use pasteurized liquid egg whites as they’ve been heated up enough to remove anything that could be harmful to you.

Shake or mix everything together until your frozen protein peanut butter cups mix is smooth.

Take out your silicone muffin cups or alternative and evenly distribute your mix into them. Using the silicone cups will help prevent anything from sticking.

Variations

This is the part where you can optionally top or add into them anything you want like some crushed up nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and so on. Let us know some of the creative and healthy ways you switch your frozen protein peanut butter cups up in the comments below!

Put your cups into the freezer for around 2 hours or until frozen.

Pro tip? Remove them from the freezer for 10 minutes prior to eating them

Make sure to keep these in the freezer so that they don’t melt!

Can I use pescience select protein powder? It’s a whey casein blend so I know it’ll need more liquid. Any guidance on that?

    • Derek Howes on January 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

Sure! You’ll be fine without adding more liquid.

Hi! I’ve really been wanting to try your recipes but I’ve got a question on this one. How much is 40 grams of protein powder in cups? Also, do you think you could come up with an ingredient substitution chart for whenever we’re out of or don’t like an ingredient? Thanks 🙂

Have you tried making these with PB2?

    • Derek Howes on September 24, 2014 at 12:00 am

Not yet! Maybe I should throw together another video on these with some different combinations!

Hey Derek! I am a vegetarian but really want to make this. What can I substitute the egg white with? I am thinking milk or vanilla Greek yogurt or something with a liquid consistency that also has protein?

    Let me know.
    Thanks

    • Derek Howes on July 17, 2014 at 12:00 am

You could definitely try Greek yogurt! You could also blend some cottage cheese up and use some extracts to flavor it (if you like cottage cheese).

This is a genius idea! Get that fix for chocolate peanut butter cups without eating the sugar and fat bomb of the real thing. Question for you, Derek. Do you have any tips for eating when you aren’t cooking? For example, family get-togethers at holidays, going to someone else’s house for dinner, etc.

    • Derek Howes on July 3, 2014 at 12:00 am

Hey Eric! Thank you. I’ll do a video or article on this topic! I get asked it ton. Let me see how fast I can get it up!

Can’t wait to try!:) Can i bring it on the way?

    • Derek Howes on February 25, 2014 at 12:00 am

They melt so probably not unless you have a portable way to keep them cool! I hope you like them though!

So you have to eat 4 cups for the 160 calories?

  11. Gianpaolo on April 23, 2013 at 12:00 am

These are delicious. I’ve made these about 3 times total now and they are best when you can sift in the powdered ingredients (to prevent clumps) but either way these are easy and great.

    • Derek Howes on April 24, 2013 at 12:00 am

Glad you liked them. One of my first (and favorite) quick recipes!
