Easy Dry Roasted Edamame

4 Bowls140 cals

It’s time to level up our high protein snack game with a homemade edition of one of my favorite healthy snacks, Easy Dry Roasted Edamame! It’s half the cost (if not cheaper), can be made a million different ways, is super easy to prep, and great for volume eating on a diet!

Start this one with shelled edamame. This can be fresh, canned, or the easiest for me to find? A frozen bag. You can make however much you want. If you’re starting from frozen, run the contents of your bag under warm water until thawed, this should only take a couple minutes.

Get out as much water as you can and put your thawed edamame into a bowl lined with a paper towel to dry them a bit more.

For reference, a 12 ounce frozen bag of shelled edamame only has 430 calories while having 41 grams of protein and 36 grams of fiber!

Remove your paper towel and add 1 tablespoon of oil into that same bowl. This could be olive, canola, chili, sesame, coconut, etc. If you’re watching your fats or want to lower the calories a bit, you can substitute this with lemon or lime juice.

Everything else you add in is completely up to you. Some of my favorite combinations?

Dry Roasted Edamame Flavors

*Amounts based on 12 ounces of shelled edamame.

  • Everything: 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon everything seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Savory: 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil, 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Spicy: 1 tablespoon chili oil, 3/4 teaspoon chili powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Zesty: 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice, 1 teaspoon Tajin seasoning
  • Ranch: 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning mix
  • Buffalo: 1 tablespoon olive oil, 4 tablespoons buffalo sauce, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dessert: 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 tablespoon sweetener, 1/4 teaspoon salt

Pick a flavor, add all of the ingredients for that flavor into your mixing bowl, and mix everything around until all of your edamame is coated.

There’s ENDLESS combinations here, it’s almost impossible to mess this recipe up so be scared to try new ingredients.

Next, take out a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or your air fryer baked and spread your edamame evenly across whatever you’re using.

Oven or Air Fryer Edamame

Put that into the oven on 425F/218C for 20-25 minutes or your air fryer on 375F/190C for around 10-12 minutes. If you don’t cook them long enough they’ll be soft (still good though) so make sure to keep an eye on them. You’ll know they’re done when your dry roasted edamame look toasted and crispy!

Once done, you can also optionally toss them around in whatever you want! Think maple syrup, soy sauce, vinegar, or other dry ingredients like chili flakes, sugar, and MORE.

As for storing them? I store mine in the fridge and they’ll usually last around a week. You can also store them at room temperature, they just won’t last as long.

Pro tip? You can add your dry roasted edamame into things to add more protein…

  • Trail mix
  • Party mix
  • Popcorn
  • Salad
  • Soup
  • Yogurt
  • Bento box
