High Protein Ranch Dressing

Homemade Greek yogurt dressing is here, ranch edition! This High Protein Ranch Dressing recipe is easy to make in minutes, cheaper than any store, packed with healthy macros, and tastes just as good as the “real” thing!

All you need for this one? A food processor or a bowl to mix your ingredients in and something to mix them. A processor with give you a better (faster) result!

Add right into whatever you’re using 8 ounces of the highest protein plain Greek yogurt you can find, 2 1/2 ounces of sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of parsley, 1 teaspoon of dill weed, 1 teaspoon of chives, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2-1 scoop of an unflavored protein powder for even more protein.

If you’re using a high protein Greek yogurt, an unflavored protein powder is probably not needed.

To make this protein ranch dressing recipe even easier you could alternatively use 1/2 packet (14g) of a ranch salad dressing & seasoning mix. This would replace everything but your Greek yogurt, sour cream, and optional protein powder.

Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing or Dip

Mix or process everything together until smooth. You may have to scrape your sides down if you’re using a food processor.

This is now the step in the recipe where you figure out what you want. Protein ranch dressing? Protein ranch dip? A combination? The amount of water you add in will depend on the consistency you want this to be, I use anywhere from 2-4 ounces. As a rule of thumb:

  • More water = less creamy
  • Less/no water = more creamy

Pro tip? To lower the sodium in the recipe you can drop the salt. Using 1/4 teaspoon instead of 1/2 will lower it by 575mg.

Ranch Dressing Variations

There’s endless “quick” variation to this protein ranch dressing recipe. Add in other herbs or vegetables, make it spicy with other seasonings or sauces (Sriracha!), use cheeses, honey, and so on. Think outside the box and you’ll never get sick of this one. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Jalapeño Ranch: Add in 1-2 chopped up jalapeños (seeded for mild or leave the seeds for extra heat).
  • Cucumber Ranch: Add in 1/2 cup of peeled and grated cucumber + 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
  • Bacon Ranch: Add in 4 slices of chopped up bacon or 4 tablespoons of bacon bits and 1/4 teaspoon of smoked paprika (optional).
  • Parmesan Ranch: Add in 1/2 cup (40g) of grated parmesan cheese.
  • Chipotle Ranch: Add in 1-2 chopped up chipotle peppers, 1 tablespoon of adobo sauce (use the canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce), and 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika.

That’s it, your protein ranch dressing or dip is ready! Store it in a sealed container in the fridge for 5-7 days or prep whatever you’re putting it on. Some of my favorite ways to eat this?

  • On a salad
  • As a dip with healthier chips or pita bread
  • In a sandwich
  • Mixed in with some fresh vegetables
  • Spread onto some rice cakes

Hi. I need some clarification please. The serving size says 1 bowl (which is a lot) so is the nutrition information for the entire bowl or the 2 Tbsp serving, which I’m assuming, is the serving (per use) size? Thanks a bunch!!

Hi Peggy! Calories listed are for the whole recipe. You can divide accordingly by however many servings you’ll need/use.

Hi there! Would you recommend (or recommend against) using Whey protein powder in this recipe? As opposed to a plant based one, for example. Thank you!

Hi Viv! Unflavored whey works great for this one!
