Easy Protein Waffles

It’s been a minute since we’ve used our waffle maker so today we’re bringing it back with some Easy Protein Waffles! This healthy breakfast recipe tastes just like the real thing and is made with 5 simple ingredients you probably already have.

Start this one by taking out either a blender or food processor. If you don’t have either, here’s a link to the food processor we’ve been using for a decade!

Add right into whatever you’re using 1/2 cup of rolled oats, 1 large egg, 1 large egg white, 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, 1 scoop of a good tasting protein powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and optionally for some flavor 1 teaspoon of a sweetener, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Flavor tip? Mix and match your Greek yogurt and protein powder for endless protein waffle variations! Chocolate protein powder with chocolate Greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder with banana cream Greek yogurt, and so on.

Process or blend all of those ingredients together until smooth.

Next, take out your waffle maker, turn it on, and coat it with some non-stick cooking spray. Yes, I’m still using my original cheap waffle maker that takes forever to clean.

Pour your mix in once it heats up and let your protein waffle cook for a couple minutes or until your waffle maker says it’s ready!

Depending on the size of your easy protein waffles, you should be able to get around 2 with this recipe.

Did you know that to make homemade oat flour all you need to do is blend or process your rolled oats until they look like flour? This would come in handy for this recipe and allow you to mix everything together without having to process or blend it!

Protein Waffles Tips

  1. Add into or on top of your waffles some fresh chopped up fruit, nuts, chocolate chips, or anything else you want.
  2. They taste great cold and/or can be microwaved if you make them the night before!
  3. Double or triple the recipe to make enough for the whole family using the scale in the recipe card below.

Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 Large Whole Egg
  • 1 Large Egg White
  • ½ Cup Greek Yogurt - or Cottage Cheese

Instructions

  • Blend or process all of your ingredients together until smooth

    I just made these this morning, and they were really good! My wife and in-laws enjoyed them as well. I used light brown sugar as a sweetener, and it worked out well.

    What’s really cool about the recipe is the use of rolled oats instead of flour, and of course the protein powder to give it some punch. Might use a vanilla or cinnamon flavored protein powder next time. Thanks!

    A tasty gluten-free, protein-filled option for breakfast! I added a dash of salt and sprinkled cinnamon on top. Pyure makes a pretty decent sugar-free organic maple-flavored syrup if you want to watch your calories and you’re okay with the taste of stevia.

    I have gestational diabetes, and sometimes I want something other than eggs. This recipe was perfect! I used the Oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt since that’s what I had on hand. Did not add sweetener just vanilla. Delicious!

    First off, I just want to say that I love your site. I’ve been cooking with protein for years and pretty sure I have been inspired from the many recipes you share.

    Sorry if this has already been addressed and I just completely missed it, but if I wanted to blend banana, strawberries or even pumpkin puree into the batter, would you recommend decreasing the amount of Greek yogurt or increasing the protein powder, oats, or something else? I imagine banana and strawberries would both be delicious in this recipe.

    If I wanted to use whole eggs would I use 1 or 2 for the basic mixture? I only ask as I tried a basic waffle recipe and it came out very “eggy” tasting.

      The cooked waffles? I’ve typically stored extra servings in either a closed container or sealable bag with the air removed. Never an issue!

        Hi. Can you clarify the macros? Why is the protein 23g for each waffle when the recipe makes 2 waffles? The recipe for 2 waffles only has one scoop of protein at 24g per scoop. Unless the 2 waffles is one serving?

        The whole recipe has 46g of protein (total with all of the ingredients used) and if you make 2 waffles that would be 23g per waffle. I’m not sure I understand your question?

    can non-fat greek yogurt be used, like Oikos triple Zero? or will not having the fat from the yogurt mess up the final product?

    Been using this recipe for years. Absolutely love it!!
    Can’t have eggs anymore though due to dietary issues. What would you suggest substituting the eggs for?
