Cottage cheese has been on vacation long enough. Today, we keep our recipe list growing and make a protein packed Cottage Cheese Pizza Bowl that uses simple ingredients, is super easy to make, and absolutely delicious! If you’re looking for a quick and healthy lunch of dinner idea, look no further.
P.S. In every pizza recipe I always like to ask you all what your favorite pizza toppings are so that maybe it’ll inspire me to try something new. Drop them in the comments below!
Start this by adding 1 1/2 cups of cottage cheese into a mixing bowl. The most important step in this recipe is to use a cottage cheese that doesn’t have a ton of liquid in it. In my experience, the lower fat or fat free ones work the best here.
You could also drain your cottage cheese but who actually wants to do that step? If you do, here’s how I’d do it:
- Pour it into a strainer and let it sit over a bowl for a few minutes.
- Put a couple paper towels into the bottom of a new bowl and add your strained cottage cheese on top of those.
- Distribute your “drained” cottage cheese into your mixing bowl.
Continue with 1 1/2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning, 3/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 4 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese, and 1/4 cup of your favorite pizza sauce.
Add whatever else you want into your mix! Chopped up vegetables, crushed red pepper for a kick, and so on. Think outside the box or use your favorite pizza toppings to really add some variety to your cottage cheese pizza bowl.
Mix those ingredients together until smooth.
This next step is optional however if you hate the texture of cottage cheese, you can blend or process it until it’s completely smooth. Personally with it being pizza, I like the texture of the cottage cheese in it.
Pro tip? If you like cold pizza, you can also eat this cold!
Baked Pizza Bowl
Next, take out at least a 16 ounce baking dish and add in your mix. If you want to double or triple the recipe, make sure to use a bigger dish.
Sprinkle in 1/4 cup of some mozzarella and lightly mix that it in.
Last, top it with 1/4 cup of some more mozzarella or your favorite pizza cheese and some optional pepperoni slices. I like to cut mine up so that it’s easier to get some pepperoni in every bite.
Throw that into the oven on 400F/204C for around 15-20 minutes or until your cheese on top has melted.
You can crisp it up even more by broiling it for a couple minutes at the end.
Air Fryer Pizza Bowl
To make this in the air fryer all you’ll need to do is to throw it in on 350F/176C for around 10-15 minutes depending on how quickly your air fryer gets up to temp.
Microwave Pizza Bowl
To make this in the microwave, microwave it for 1 minute prior to topping it with your additional 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. Depending on how powerful your microwave is, you may need more or less time.
After a minute, mix everything around again. This is to evenly distribute everything as it microwaves.
Top it with your leftover cheese and optional pepperoni before microwaving it again for another minute.
As it cools a bit out after cooking, it’ll thicken up a bit more. The only downside to using a cottage cheese that has more liquid in it is that your bowl will be more “soupy” (it’ll still taste great).

I made this with Candian bacon and pepperoni, and Peper jack cheese. My guests only negative comment was the ‘clumps’ (that are natural part of cottage cheese). However, they all agreed that it was tasty!
Next time I make it I will blend the cottage cheese for a smooth consistency.
We tried this cottage cheese pizza bowl today, and I have to say, it hit the spot! It definitely satisfied my pizza craving while being surprisingly filling. The cottage cheese paired well with the pizza toppings, and the added chopped ham and pineapple we used gave it our favorite pizza twist. Will be making this again!
