Sing it with me…if you like pina coladas. Ok, I think I’ll end my singing career there. What I can guarantee you that is better than my singing is this Green Pina Colada Smoothies recipe! These protein smoothies are easy to make, super refreshing, and HEALTHY!
Start these green pina colada smoothies by taking out a blender. Yes, you do need a blender for this one unless you have the hidden talent of blending vegetables and fruits in your shaker.
All you need to do is add everything right into your blender starting with 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla coconut milk, 2 scoops of protein powder, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of fresh or frozen pineapple, 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil, 1 banana, 1 cup of washed spinach or kale, 1/2 teaspoon of xanthan gum to thicken it up, and 1/2 cup of ice.
Green Pina Colada Tips
- You don’t need xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is used to thicken it up which you can read more about here.
- Worried about only tasting the spinach or kale? Don’t be! All of the other flavors in this recipe overpower the “greens” so you can’t taste it at all.
- If you use frozen fruits or vegetables, use less ice.
- Use a compliment flavor protein powder. I like vanilla.
This is now the part now where you could add in some alcohol to really offset the health benefits. No, I’m not doing that (I haven’t even had breakfast yet).
Alcohol or no alcohol, go ahead and blend everything together together until you have your green pina colada smoothies! This should take a minute or less.
This green pina colada smoothie recipe packs a ton of flavor AND health benefits. Let me know if you offset those health benefits today in the comments below! See what I did there?

This sounds great, but I was wondering if you could use chia seeds as a thickener instead. I just started this lifestyle change a few weeks ago, and I am trying to learn as much as I can as fast as I can. I made your chicken muffins, I had to make a few substitutions, due to lack of ingredients, but they were all very healthy veggies. They were really good, so I want to try some more of your recipes. Thanks
It won’t thicken up as much but you can definitely add some chia seeds! Congrats on the lifestyle change my friend.
